Practical Testing (Mobile Cranes)
Small telescopic boom crane less than 17.5 tons, fixed cab practical test covers swing and fixed cab categories (small swing cab practical test only covers small swing cab crane). Large telescopic boom cranes greater than 17.5 tons, swing cab practical test covers swing and fixed cab categories (large fixed cab practical test only covers large fixed cab crane). Lattice boom cranes covers crawler and truck mounted cranes
A crane operator is required to complete the following tasks for each crane type on which they would like to be certified (most are timed).
Pre task familiarization period (15 minutes)
- Place overhead ball in stop circle (optimum time 1:30)
- Follow hand signals (not timed)
- Place overhead ball in two barrels (optimum time 3:30)
Familiarization with test weight (5 minutes)
4-A: Negotiate zigzag corridor with test weight in forward fashion
- Optimum time 3:00 Large Telescopic
- Optimum time 4:00 Small Telescopic
4-B: Negotiate zigzag corridor with test weight in forward fashion
